Squirrels are the toughest animal to keep out of homes because they are hoarders. Once they have made a house their home, they store food in it for the winter and are very hard to keep out. We've had squirrels chew through new 2x10s to get back into a house.

When we inspect homes for squirrels, we also look for damage to the home caused by them. We give an estimate to repair the damage and seal them out with Warranty. Generally, squirrels can live for 20 years, each year they have 2 litters of 2-8 kits. Their numbers are kept in check by the many predators that prey on them: man, coyote, fox, dogs, cats, raccoon, snakes and all birds of prey. , Despite being able to find food almost everywhere, including the heart of big cities, most squirrels are lucky to live 5 years. Everyone sees squirrels in bird feeders and gathering nuts and berries, but few realize what opportunistic predators they are of bird eggs and nestlings. Chipmunks as well as all the other squirrels find bird nests easy pickings and contribute to the mortality of many song birds every year. The eastern gray and black (gray morphs) squirrel are about 50% of our squirrel work.

They are increasing their numbers while other species of squirrels are holding steady or declining. Chipmunks, Red Squirrels and Fox Squirrels will live together utilizing different niches of the same habitat. Because of various reasons the eastern gray takes over territory of all three, and drives the others out. The grays eat the same food as Chipmunks and Fox squirrels, are far more aggressive and have twice as big litters. The Red squirrel is the most aggressive and could lick any gray squirrel in a territorial battle, yet the eastern grey squirrel population appears to be able to out-compete the red squirrel for various reasons:

• The eastern grey squirrel can easily digest acorns, while the red squirrel cannot.
• The eastern grey squirrel carries a disease, the squirrel parapoxvirus, that does not appear to affect their health but will often kill the red squirrel. It was revealed in 2008 that the numbers of red squirrels in England have recently declined by 80% as a result of this disease.
• When the red squirrel is put under pressure, it will not breed as often.

It is worth noting that the eastern grey squirrel and the red squirrel are not directly antagonistic towards each other, and direct violent conflict between these species is not a factor in the decline in red squirrel populations.Although they are pretty and fun to watch it’s not ecologically responsible to relocate gray and black squirrels.
